Please may I ask for your vote?

This is my entry into this month's "Double Take'" Spoonflower/Betabrand Challenge - the brief was to create a design that was either a trompe l'oeil (I went this way) or something that could be seen two ways - like an Escher print.

I painted up a realistic daylily from my garden in watercolour and separately a cut work or lace pattern to look 3D and then subtly 'threaded' the daylily 'through' the background design. It's quiet but I hope not too subtle for the brief!
And what an unusual colour palette for me - I am normally very multicolour so just violet and orange is a new direction.

I will be populating my POD's with this design in the next few days and will do another blog post with all the links.

In the meantime please
for me (by clicking on the word vote) - there are a lot of entries and they are shuffled for each voter so thanks so much for taking the time from your day - very appreciated!

The honour of your vote is once again most kindly requested

Spoonflower has recently changed the timing and focus of their design competitions which used to be weekly and more 'for fun' but are now monthly and have a specific focus. This first challenge is a collaboration between Spoonflower and one of their new divisions Sprout Patterns.

"Submit a Japanese Garden-themed design you think would look great on Sprout Patterns’ Asaka Kimono by Named Clothing. The winner’s design will be featured in the launch of this new pattern and all top-ten designers will receive great prizes!"

If you would like to vote for my "Kimono Bouquet" pattern please click
My sincere thanks for your vote - just fyi the voting reorders for each voter, you can only vote once and you don't have to sign in to vote!

Sprout Patterns is a new service that allows you to combine indie sewing patterns with Spoonflower designs to create customized cut and sew projects. Sprout takes away the work of tracing a sewing pattern onto fabric and lets you truly enjoy the process of making your own garments and accessories.

I am populating all my online shops with this new design - which I hand painted in watercolour on paper before scanning cleaning getting ready for the templates in Photoshop and then uploading to my items which range from smartphone cases, framed art prints, spandex leggings, beanies, scarves and home decor items too. Thus far I have created 6 different iterations of/from this initial design as I love the idea of mixing and matching the patterns for pillows on a sofa, a different but co-ordinated legging with a fun beanie etc etc etc

For large (55" square) silky chiffon scarves please click HERE

My thanks to Gaia Marfurt for so kindly creating this sweet Kimono Doll for me and others in the challenge to decorate with their designs.

As with all of my designs I originate my artwork in watercolour, Winsor and Newton, on watercolour paper blocks by the same - with W & N series 7 paintbrushes - can you tell I am loyal to Winsor & Newton? I transfer the design from my original sketch via the wonderful auspices of old fashioned pencil and tracing paper....
and after I have a faint outline on my pad I then start the process of layering my watercolour paints in wash upon wash until my design is complete
 - then it's off to the scanner and Photoshop for the ultimate creation of a final set of file
which I can upload to my various online shops.

Thanks so much for taking the time to vote - appreciatively, PatriciaSheaDesigns

How many different designs can you make from one motif?

So here's where the journey of my Pastel Carousel Mandala began. On the right is the original pencil sketch design I used as my jumping off point - on the left is the finished painted mandala - created in watercolour paints on Arches hot press paper with my lovely Winsor and Newton series 7 brushes.
As you can see the whole colour palette changed to a more bright pastel theme, and some of the layout changed too - once you start the actual layout and begin painting I find the design takes on a life of it's own and starts telling you how to proceed.
So once the design was painted up I scanned it at a very high resolution so I could create the huge design files I needed going forward, and then started my layouts in Photoshop - when I commenced creating the motif into allover repeats and placements the ideas began flowing and didn't stop for quite a while!! I was having so much fun that I ended up with 18 different design layouts which I then prepared for my print on demand online shops. I hope my joy of creating is reflected in the finished products.
Then I had the fun of naming the design - sometimes that can be the hardest part - once I alighted on 'carousel' with the image of those delightful whirling painted horses I then though of confetti at a wedding - all of which comes in this same colour palette as my design and thus the name was set and I have used various and sundry versions of it on each design and in each shop.
"PASTEL CAROUSEL CONFETTI"

I have created collections in each of my online shops so you can visit just this Pastel Carousel Confetti grouping in each
SPOONFLOWER - for fabric, wallpaper and wrapping paper.
SOCIETY6 - for art prints, apparel, home decor and techcessories
REDBUBBLE - similar but different to Society6 with the addition of wonderful 55" square chiffon scarves.
ARTofWHERE - gorgeous spandex leggings, skirts and beanies made in Canada, designed by yours truly!

PLUS I have finally recreated my website from scratch - it's been a LONG time coming - and I did it all myself without a template - my biggest challenge was keeping it simple - please let me know what you think, any constructive criticisms are gratefully received.
Thank you for taking a look at my new design collection - I
hope to see you soon in cyberspace either here or at Facebook, Twitter or Pinterest
I have a new design in the works based on a hexagonal layout - I should be rolling that out in about a month or so so please stay tuned!
with THANKS!!!
