Hello again! The honour of your VOTE would be gratefully appreciated!

Dear, dear, kind, thoughtful, generous PATIENT friends and acquaintances it has been quite the while since I posted - I have missed you and wonder who might still be around to read this post!

Would you do me the honour of casting your vote in my general direction for this week’s 500th Spoonflower challenge for which I especially created this design! I am asking a lot as it is a total of 1263 designs to potentially scroll through and the designs are shuffled for each voter and TBH sometimes I have missed my own design in the scrolling - just FYI you can only vote once per person, you DO NOT have to log in and you can vote for as many designs as you like!

*After you select my design please make sure to hit ‘submit’ at the top or bottom of the page - cheers!*

THE VOTING LINK: Click HERE

Voting is open until September 22nd

As always I created this design by hand in watercolours - always Winsor and Newton - on paper block - real old school and then on to scanning and digitizing and cleaning and putting into repeat!

Thank you all most kindly! Patricia 😘😘😘🤩🤩🤩🐝🐝🐝

Your vote at Spoonflower please :)

May I once again please ask for your vote in this week's Spoonflower challenge. The design brief was for a large scale Art Deco design and above is mine, "Art Deco Maximalist", featured on the Wyandotte Duvet Bedding at Roostery

I decided to go down the design road of geometric which was a strong direction in the Art Deco era and thoroughly enjoyed creating a grouping of 5 separate elements in watercolour on paper - my preferred medium - before developing them into a repeat pattern that I then overlaid on top of itself shifted to a degree whereby the pattern becomes more decorative and intricate.

Thanks so much in advance for your time taken to vote - you don't have to sign in and can vote for as many entries as you like.

Thank you

Please may I ask for your vote?

This is my entry into this month's "Double Take'" Spoonflower/Betabrand Challenge - the brief was to create a design that was either a trompe l'oeil (I went this way) or something that could be seen two ways - like an Escher print.

I painted up a realistic daylily from my garden in watercolour and separately a cut work or lace pattern to look 3D and then subtly 'threaded' the daylily 'through' the background design. It's quiet but I hope not too subtle for the brief!
And what an unusual colour palette for me - I am normally very multicolour so just violet and orange is a new direction.

I will be populating my POD's with this design in the next few days and will do another blog post with all the links.

In the meantime please
for me (by clicking on the word vote) - there are a lot of entries and they are shuffled for each voter so thanks so much for taking the time from your day - very appreciated!

How many different designs can you make from one motif?

So here's where the journey of my Pastel Carousel Mandala began. On the right is the original pencil sketch design I used as my jumping off point - on the left is the finished painted mandala - created in watercolour paints on Arches hot press paper with my lovely Winsor and Newton series 7 brushes.
As you can see the whole colour palette changed to a more bright pastel theme, and some of the layout changed too - once you start the actual layout and begin painting I find the design takes on a life of it's own and starts telling you how to proceed.
So once the design was painted up I scanned it at a very high resolution so I could create the huge design files I needed going forward, and then started my layouts in Photoshop - when I commenced creating the motif into allover repeats and placements the ideas began flowing and didn't stop for quite a while!! I was having so much fun that I ended up with 18 different design layouts which I then prepared for my print on demand online shops. I hope my joy of creating is reflected in the finished products.
Then I had the fun of naming the design - sometimes that can be the hardest part - once I alighted on 'carousel' with the image of those delightful whirling painted horses I then though of confetti at a wedding - all of which comes in this same colour palette as my design and thus the name was set and I have used various and sundry versions of it on each design and in each shop.
"PASTEL CAROUSEL CONFETTI"

I have created collections in each of my online shops so you can visit just this Pastel Carousel Confetti grouping in each
SPOONFLOWER - for fabric, wallpaper and wrapping paper.
SOCIETY6 - for art prints, apparel, home decor and techcessories
REDBUBBLE - similar but different to Society6 with the addition of wonderful 55" square chiffon scarves.
ARTofWHERE - gorgeous spandex leggings, skirts and beanies made in Canada, designed by yours truly!

PLUS I have finally recreated my website from scratch - it's been a LONG time coming - and I did it all myself without a template - my biggest challenge was keeping it simple - please let me know what you think, any constructive criticisms are gratefully received.
Thank you for taking a look at my new design collection - I
hope to see you soon in cyberspace either here or at Facebook, Twitter or Pinterest.
I have a new design in the works based on a hexagonal layout - I should be rolling that out in about a month or so so please stay tuned!
with THANKS!!!

Wild Maine Blueberry designs abound!

Wild Maine Blueberries are quite the joy to behold as well as eat! I just happen to live a short walk away from a barren and this year was the harvest year - it happens every other year, and I thought it was high time I created some designs for my online shops with an illustration of these colourful, bloomed beauties. Luckily my desire to finally illustrate these berries of delight coincided with a competition at Spoonflower for a botanical design and thus my blueberries finally came into being.
This was my competition entry replete with the flowers and early white berries, for indeed not all stages of the blueberries are blue.
.....and following are the ways I have used the sprig to create a number of blueberry patterns for my multiple and sundry online shops.
(To go directly to the items pictured please click on the bold shop name in the descriptions - thanks!)

Prune, Ginger and Lemon Teacake and a new pink design at Society6

Ahhhh - lovely, delicious, delightful Prune, Ginger and Lemon Teacake - what a wholesome and satisfying treat on a cosy autumn day. The poor beleaguered fruit known as 'prune' is a star in this tangy, spicy sweet, fruit cake - I love prunes and always wonder why they have such a bad reputation - maybe 'they' are on to something by trying to change the name to dried plums?

If you are a fan of light fruit cakes then get thee to the kitchen pronto, and best to have all your ingredients at room temp!

This recipe is for my usual 6 inch cake - you can double for a 9" pan but will have to bake longer and check more often for 'doneness'
First you must start by soaking your prunes in good strong tea - I use Earl Grey for that extra lovely, flowery bergamot flavour - but use whichever tea you like.

5 ounces of prunes chopped into 1/2 inch chunks - don't chop too fine or they will turn to mush in the hot tea.

4 fluid ounces strong tea

1. Put the two together in a small saucepan and heat through 'til almost bubbling for a few minutes - maybe three - then allow to cool completely

Pre heat the oven to 350F, butter and line with parchment paper a small, tall 6" diameter baking pan lightly rebutter the parchment after lining the pan.
INGREDIENTS:
5oz white flour/ 1 1/4 cups with 1/2 teaspoon baking soda whisked in

2oz/ 1/2 stick salted butter
I always use salted but you can use unsalted if you prefer

3oz chopped crystallized ginger

2 tablespoons freshly grated ginger

2 tablespoons freshly chopped lemon zest - chopped works better in this recipe better than grated - the slight tooth gives an added dimension

4 oz / slightly mounded half cup sugar

1 egg lightly beaten

1. Cream butter and sugar 'til light and fluffy .

2. Add egg in three goes and beat each time to incorporate fully.

3. Fold flour and baking soda in in two goes until well blended and smooth.

4. Fold in the prunes with tea, blend, fold in the lemon zest and two gingers and blend.
5. Dollop the thick batter into your prepared pan and smooth over.

6. Pop into the pre heated oven and bake for 45 mins, then add a parchment or foil hat over the cake to stop it from burning and bake for another 30 mins checking at 15 mins for doneness with a toothpick which should come out of the cake clean after being deftly plunged into the centre of the cake. When the toothpick comes out clean your cake is done.

Mine did sink a little in the middle after it came out of the oven but it was fine - not sticky in the middle at all.
Allow the cake to cool for about 15 mins before removing from the pan to a cooling rack - allow to cool completely before eating.

This is definitely one of those improves with age cakes so if you can wait til the second day the flavours will have married to a point of complete perfection.

Get the kettle on!!!

I don't know why I love painting patchwork designs in watercolour but I do, there's something very satisfying about it for me. I originally created the motifs in this design for a competition at Spoonflower - here is a LINK to that design in a different format.

Iris Nouveau - a new design in my online shops and new items at Society6

k
My latest design "Nouveau Iris" - or "Iris Nouveau" I can never decide which way round I prefer - began her journey many years ago as a small watercolour painting, a fifth of a full circle section created specifically with dinner plates in mind. Poor little thing has been languishing in my flat files waiting to be chosen, scanned and created into a full circle design and then reworked into allover patterns to be uploaded to my various online print on demand shops applied to many and sundry items for you and your home, as gifts to yourself and your family and friends. She has always been a favourite of mine - how odd you can have favourites of your own work!, and I am so glad to see her finished!
